lightacrossriver THE LIGHT ACROSS THE RIVER

In 1837 the Underground Railroad was very busy. The Rankin home was a beacon of freedom on the Ohio side of the Ohio River. Kentucky slaves would sometimes cross the ice or take a dingy to get to the other side of the river to freedom. Johnny Rankin has never seen a slave, but he knows that his family is a stop on the Underground Railroad. But they never keep the escaped slaves for long, they always sent them quickly on their way north to Canada.

And that’s when it hit him,
a thought that seemed odd–
All bears were once babies–
so what about God?

"Phillip W. Rodgers’ books are delightful-from the engaging illustrations to the clever poetry to the eternal truths they teach. I am using them with my grandchildren-and enjoying them as much, if not more, than the children. As I read them I am reminded of the great realities about God that sometimes get forgotten in my busy, grown-up world. Thank you, Phillip Rodgers, for new classics."

–Ruth Graham
Author, speaker, and president of Ruth Graham and Friends

"Phillip W. Rodgers has a true giftedness to take the deepest truths of the Bible and explain them to our little ones in such exciting stories. Read these stories to your children and the God of the Bible will come alive."

BOOK REVIEW | The Amazing Bible Factbook for Kids

image The Amazing Bible Factbook for Kids
American Bible Society

The Amazing Bible Factbook for Kids is full of interesting, fun facts about the bible. The book includes factual information about some of the following topics: Angels, Animals, Clothing and Cosmetics, Food, Geography, Health, Heaven, Kids in the Bible, Language, Movies, Music and a ton of other topics.

I really like how the book follows the magazine-style design that you find in many books these days. I’m sure this makes the book even more attractive for an inquisitive youngster. This will surely make a great reference book for family devotion time or individual reading. There are quizzes and puzzles found throughout the book as well.

While the book was created for kids, this is a great tool for adults too! ;)

BOOK REVIEW | Sydney Clair’s Season of Change

sydneyclair Sydney Clair’s Season of Change
by Pam Davis

The second story is "Sydney Clair’s Season of Change" and tells of a young girl’s experience in the days of the Civil Rights Movement, as well as the war protests and how they impact her life. She learns through personal experience how rejection feels, especially when it isn’t fair.

These books are wonderful! The illustrations are gorgeous, and the stories are interactive, encouraging girls to go to the Girls ‘n Grace website and learn more. I’m giving this series five out of five bookmarks, with a world globe as a charm. Learn more about God, a relationship with Him, and cultures world wide!
