BOOK REVIEW | Lenny Loses His Lunch

Lenny Loses His LunchLenny Loses His Lunch
by Dan Taylor & Damon J. Taylor

Lenny wanted others to like him, so he tired to please everyone. He would follow his friends no matter what, even if they did something Lenny knew was wrong. He just couldn’t say "no" to them. That is, until Daniel was thrown into the Lions’ den and God chose Lenny to take the lead.

Told by Bible animals, the stories in the God Can Use Me series use real-life emotions and disarming humor to teach kids that God has a unique job planned for each of them. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

REVIEW FOR PARENT:

Offering an excellent twist on a famous bible story children are introduced to Lenny, the Lion. Beautifully illustrated, Lenny Loses His Lunch: A Lion’s Tale teachers children invaluable lessons about being a follower versus a leader. Lenny learns how to be a leader by following God. A very helpful page is included after the story for parents to use as a discussion guide with their children. – aKidzfaith

Every Monday Morning

Every Monday Morning
by Linda Hutton

This whimsical, cuddle-up-and-read book tells the story of an elderly man’s daily routine of selfless love and service to others. Mr. Peters is retired and widowed. But he doesn’t feel like that’s any reason to sit around and mope. Every Monday morning he and his little dog, Joey, put on their matching scarf and coat and walk down to the bus stop to visit with their friends. Every Monday morning they stroll around the neighborhood, always stopping at the church to pat the maple tree planted in memory of his wife. Then they go back home to eat breakfast and wait for their friends to return in the afternoon. And every weekday morning is just like every Monday morning. But one morning everything changes. When Mr. Peters hears about some needy children, he sacrifices his routine—and much more—to help them.

REVIEW FOR PARENT:

Mr. Peter and his dog, Joey are a delightful pair. Mr. Peter’s desire to keep in touch with his friends each day will inspire children to become good friends themselves. Through Mr. Peter’s unusual sacrifice, children and adults will learn the importance of giving to others in need. – aKidzfaith

BOOK REVIEW | Pet Parables, Volume 1

Pet Parables

 Pet Parables, Volume 1
by Neta Jackson

Ages: 5 and up

A menagerie of funny animal buddies romp through the Pet Parables and discover that it’s fun to get along! Children will identify with the familiar antics of these fuzzy and feathered pals and the bumps they hit on the road to friendship. 48 pages, hardcover.

REVIEW FOR PARENT:

Being a cat lover, this reviewer loved the first pet parable. Neta Jackson shares a valuable lesson about acceptance and differences through the lives of three cats. One cat is a very opinionated Siamese, the second a mixed breed cat and the third, a struggling alley cat. Children will find that looks are definitely deceiving when choosing friends.

In the second story, children will meet Grumble. One of six ducks, Grumble definitely lives up to his name. Parents and children will be delighted to read how Grumble learns her lesson about complaining too much! – aKidzfaith
